Pilbara Pirates turn the tables to plunder rivals Burrup Barracudas
Good weather finally greeted players during round six of the Karratha Water Polo Association season, resulting in four hardfought games.
The women’s first game saw the Pilbara Pirates take down arch nemesis the Burrup Barracudas 6-4 for the first time this season, with Bonnie Kaestner, Ashleen McGovern and Taylor Sparks all playing exceptionally well.
In the men’s first game, the Barracudas accounted for the King Bay Krakens 9-3, with Mark Fields and Nigel Kroonstuiver doing the damage for the ’Cudas and Rhys Wilkinson a fortress in goals for the Krakens, blocking many shots with his face in addition to his hands.
The women’s second game saw the Krakens beat the Searipple Sharks 11-6 in a fast-paced game.
Caitlin Read continued her great start to the year with five goals and was well supported by goalie Nikki Hemett and Hayley Edwards.
The final men’s game saw an unrelenting Pirates plunder the Krakens 11-3.
The Pirates decided to divide and conquer and shared the goal scoring among six players.
Ben Biddiscombe, Justin Angove and Aaron Day were nominated as best in pool.
