Pil­bara Pi­rates turn the ta­bles to plun­der ri­vals Bur­rup Bar­racu­das

Good weather fi­nally greeted play­ers dur­ing round six of the Kar­ratha Wa­ter Polo As­so­ci­a­tion sea­son, re­sult­ing in four hard­fought games.

The women’s first game saw the Pil­bara Pi­rates take down arch neme­sis the Bur­rup Bar­racu­das 6-4 for the first time this sea­son, with Bon­nie Kaest­ner, Ash­leen McGovern and Taylor Sparks all play­ing ex­cep­tion­ally well.

In the men’s first game, the Bar­racu­das ac­counted for the King Bay Krak­ens 9-3, with Mark Fields and Nigel Kroon­s­tu­iver do­ing the dam­age for the ’Cu­das and Rhys Wilkin­son a fortress in goals for the Krak­ens, block­ing many shots with his face in ad­di­tion to his hands.

The women’s sec­ond game saw the Krak­ens beat the Searip­ple Sharks 11-6 in a fast-paced game.

Caitlin Read con­tin­ued her great start to the year with five goals and was well sup­ported by goalie Nikki Hemett and Hay­ley Ed­wards.

The fi­nal men’s game saw an un­re­lent­ing Pi­rates plun­der the Krak­ens 11-3.

The Pi­rates de­cided to di­vide and con­quer and shared the goal scor­ing among six play­ers.

Ben Bid­dis­combe, Justin An­gove and Aaron Day were nom­i­nated as best in pool.
