Dog sniffs out drugs

Kar­ratha po­lice have al­legedly made a num­ber of ec­stasy and other il­licit drug seizures this fort­night, with help from a drugde­tec­tion dog from the WA Po­lice ca­nine sec­tion.

In four sep­a­rate cases in the one week, of­fi­cers al­lege they found 250 ec­stasy tablets dur­ing a ve­hi­cle stop, an­other 30 tablets while search­ing a house, 9g of metham­phetamine in a ho­tel room, and 83g of co­caine en route in the mail.

On Satur­day, Novem­ber 19, po­lice re­quested back-up from Perth drug de­tec­tion dog Zolo and his han­dler, Sergeant Nick Ber­ra­gan.

Zolo found four peo­ple al­legedly in pos­ses­sion of var­i­ous il­licit drugs that night.

Kar­ratha po­lice act­ing of­fi­cerin-charge Se­nior Sergeant Gavin Lang said Zolo was re­quested as a pre­cau­tion for a weekend event.
