Recruiting coup for Pilbara miner
Pilbara Minerals has bolstered the operating experience on its board, adding Fortescue Metals Group operations director Nick Cernotta in a recruiting coup.
Mr Cernotta will be replaced as Fortescue’s director of operations by former Rio Tinto Pilbara boss Greg Lilleyman in January.
He is credited with driving the complex beneficiation strategy that slashed Fortescue’s cash operating costs from $US35 a tonne in 2014, when he joined the iron ore miner, to levels closer to $US14/t now.
It is still unclear whether the former Macmahon Holdings and Barrick Gold executive will remain with Fortescue in a new role, but Mr Cernotta will join the Pilbara Minerals board early next year as a non-executive director, replacing Robert Adamson as a non-executive director.
