The Nickol Bay Hockey Association celebrated winning the City of Karratha sporting club of the year and coach of the year awards with a match on Wednesday.

The Seagulls started off with a quick pass out to left-wing where Angela Ballantyne, after narrowly missing by inches the first attempt, finally slammed it into the back of the goal to start the scoring.

The left wing was the place to be, with some fast action by Amber Vidotto.

She provided good defence but also sprinted all the way forward to support a strong attacking game.

She played a major part in the action that put the Seagulls 3-0 up very early in the match.

The Pilbara Giraffes’ left wing, Tania Underwood, put the Giraffes on the score sheet and continued to sneak down that line all match.

After half-time, Jack Cotterell had a great run down the right wing and almost scored again for the Giraffes before Seagulls’ Gina Leckie at full-back stole the ball from him.

Annabelle Little picked up a long pass, ran it all the way down and dinked it across to Jacob Innamorati who smashed it home to bring the score to 5-2.

In the end, speed and accurate passing from the Seagulls saw them put away three more goals.

Nevin Shakespeare put in a lastditch effort for the Giraffes and scored the final goal of the night in a spectacular sprint down the pitch.

The final score was 8-5 for the Seagulls.
