Singapore on the cards for overseas flight service
International flights from Karratha are a step closer, with the City set to call tenders for the service after a promising expressions of interest and research process.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said he was confident there would be enough market interest to get a direct service to Singapore up and running.
“We consistently receive feedback from the community that they want international flights, and we hear them loud and clear,” he said. “Following the EOI process we are now confident that there is interest from airlines in bringing this service to Karratha and that it can be done at a reasonable price.”
The tender process is expected to take until early in the new year, after which council will make a decision on whether to proceed with a proposal.
Port Hedland International Airport chief executive Mitchell Cameron has raised concerns a Singapore service from Karratha would undercut Hedland’s Bali service.
