Local athletes were only too willing to rise to the gruelling challenge of the Wickham Recreation Precinct’s first mini triathlon on Saturday, which had a big turnout and some competitive times.

Twenty teams, including 13 solo athletes and seven threeperson teams, signed up for the endurance event made up of a 5km run, 10km bike ride on stationary spin bikes, and swimming 600m or 24 laps of the pool.

Tim Renton was both the overall and solo winner with a time of 42min. 15sec.

In the teams division, Pilbara Physio was fastest with a time of 44min. 15sec, with the Tri-Sexuals coming in second and the Pain Train third.

The Precinct fitness team devised the event to encourage residents to set themselves goals outside their comfort zones and boost participation at the club.

They plan to hold the mini triathlon as an annual event.
