Friendly rivals raise $16k

The great Movember Challenge between City of Karratha staff and councillors finished at midnight on November 30.

There was great rivalry between the eight senior City personnel and the six councillors, with the objective to see which group could raise the most money for this worthwhile charity.

The staff pulled ahead early with a car wash and a sausage sizzle.

A long line of cars and some very generous members of the public made this a great success.

The councillors responded with an opportunity for the public to hit them in the face with a wet sponge or a cream pie.

Many seemed to enjoy this event greatly.

Other staff team fundraisers included a barbecue breakfast, a curry cook-off and a guess the baby-mo competition.

Councillors came back from behind with a cake stall, collection tins at the Blanche and Rambla bars, and a fancy dress night.

In the end, more than $16,000 was raised, with the councillors’ total of $8414 just edging ahead of the staff’s $7729.
