Festive season brings league to its knees
The festive season took its toll in the year’s penultimate round of water polo.
Two games were forfeited on Thursday as players were forced to choose between their children’s end of year presentations and their sport — clearly a difficult choice for some.
The Pirates women’s team was a player down for its fixture and it showed, with the Krakens smashing the undermanned side 14-3.
Caitlin Read, Jaye Audas and Portia Angove all had solid performances for their teams.
Only two players rocked up for the Pirates men, which meant the Krakens scooped some much-needed points by default.
The Krakens women, who were still on fire from their previous game, gave the Krakens men a run for their money in an interclub friendly. Both the Sharks and the Barracudas escaped the curse of the end-ofyear concert and fielded full teams for the second women’s fixture.
The Barracudas came away with the win 10-6, with Belinda Brooks, Ashleigh Holmes and Donna Adams all producing stand-out games.
The Krakens men notched up another win by default as the Barracudas were unable to field a team in the final men’s fixture.
