Man cops fine for littering offence
A Karratha man has been fined several thousand dollars for committing a littering offence in town.
Clifton Lockyer has entered pleas of guilty to charges of depositing litter and driving or parking on a reserve, in Karratha Magistrate’s Court.
The littering charges stem from an incident in which Lockyer left a large pile of rubbish in an area behind the Baynton West Hills on Thursday, November 24. He was given a global fine of $2000. A City of Karratha spokesman said although the City offered free tip services, littering remained a major problem for the local government, which spent more than $520,000 on clean-up efforts and received 634 litter action requests through its rangers last financial year.
The maximum penalty for littering is a fine of $5000.
