Parking bay limit modified
Parking restrictions in the Karratha city centre will be modified to extend 15-minute bay limits to night time and weekends.
The current 15-minute bays between the Pelago buildings apply only until 6pm, but under the changes will be extended to 9pm and cover every day.
Changes were brought about after a business owner in Pelago West requested the hours be extended.
City of Karratha officers noted rangers would not be able to monitor the bays regularly after 6pm, but the changes were passed by council anyway.
Taxi bays on Karratha Terrace will be turned into two-hour parking bays, with taxis to use the service bay on Sharpe Avenue instead.
A Department of Transport request for dedicated bays for practical driver assessment outside the Quarter was denied.
The move comes as the Town of Port Hedland cans timed parking in the Port Hedland CBD because of less patronage.
Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce and Industry requested the timed parking be removed as it had become a burden to local business.
Timed parking was introduced in Hedland in 2014 because of concerns customer parking bays were being used by vehicles to park all day, thus limiting access for customers.
Those concerns are no longer held by the PHCCI.
