Greens leader silent on far-left faction

Federal Greens leader Richard Di Natale has refused to be drawn on a splinter group’s call for supporters to disrupt Australia Day celebrations.

Left Renewal, a far-Left NSW Greens faction, wants people to take part in “seven days of resistance in the lead-up to Invasion Day”.

That includes stealing and burning the Australian flag, disrupting barbecues and other official events and spraying protest graffiti on walls and roads

Senator Di Natale’s office refused to comment. Senator Di Natale has previously dismissed Left Renewal as “ridiculous”.

The City of Fremantle will skip its Australia Day celebrations in favour of a “culturally inclusive” event two days later out of sensitivity to Aboriginal people.
