Volunteers celebrate big birthdays
Volunteers at the Karratha St John Ambulance Sub Centre are known as a diverse bunch, especially when it comes to their age.
In fact, in an interesting twist, last year five volunteers celebrated special milestone birthdays.
North West assistant regional manager Mike Booth said having such a wide selection of ages of active volunteers in the centre was a positive reflection on the organisation.
“This demonstrates how volunteering with St John appeals to people of all ages and how we, as an organisation, can cater to the needs of volunteers across the age spectrum,” he said.
Volunteer Janette ParsonsSmith, who turned 60 last year, said she found volunteering with St John Ambulance rewarding.
“You become part of a caring, thoughtful and dedicated group of volunteers when you join the Karratha Sub Centre,” she said.
Fellow volunteer Lyn Polkinghorne celebrated her 50th birthday last year.
“I love working with inspirational people and being able to help people in need,” she said.
The other special landmark birthdays were: Tim Ligtermoet (30), Megan Hinkley (40), and Jim Farnworth (70).
St John has more than 5200 active operational volunteers.
