Coaches sought for PCYC kids
Exmouth PCYC is calling for more coaches to be able to run their children’s cricket sessions this month.
The service wants to run cricket games for children aged five-17 over eight weeks in term one, as they have been doing for the past few years.
However, Exmouth PCYC coordinator Lauren Rampling said they needed more coaches to do so after some of the regular helpers left town and one of the remaining ones was limited by a fly-in, fly-out schedule.
“We’re always looking for more coaches, and I’m hoping we can get some high school kids coaching the younger kids as that works really well for both the coaches and the young people receiving support form them,” she said.
“We have only got a couple of coaches at the moment. If we don’t get anymore we won’t be running it.”
She said they were looking for “someone who enjoys cricket, someone who has a sense of humour, and someone who is inclusive and passionate and wants to share the skills they’ve got”.
Ms Rampling said cricket was always a popular sport with the children. “We usually have about 80 children playing,” she said.
“The WA Cricket Association are quite amazed at the numbers we get.”
The PCYC cricket season will run every week starting from February 14 on Talanjee and Kookoboro ovals.
