An Exmouth man has been handed an eight month suspended prison sentence for assaulting another man and smashing two vehicles with a baseball bat last year.

Simon Troy Fort, of Exmouth, appeared via video link at Karratha Magistrate’s Court last week on three charges of criminal damage or destruction of property, one charge of aggravated unlawful assault causing bodily harm and one charge of breaching protective bail conditions.

All but the last charge stem from incidents on September 22 last year, when a confrontation between himself and another man on an Exmouth street escalated.

While arguing with the man, Fort punched him to the body and head five times. Fort then used a baseball bat to smash the assault victim’s vehicle and a vehicle belonging to his former partner. He pleaded guilty to all charges. Fort was sentenced to an eightmonth term of suspended imprisonment, valid for 12 months, as well as a suspension order for the criminal damage charges.
