Fish ’n chips with views

A pop­u­lar fish and chip joint over­look­ing the beach near Wick­ham will re­open its doors at the end of the month after its an­nual sum­mer break.

The Port Wal­cott Yacht Club has be­come a lo­cal favourite for week­end trips thanks to its lo­ca­tion above Boat Beach and muchloved fish and chips.

It will re­open on Fe­bru­ary 26 from 11am.

Port Wal­cott sec­re­tary Janis Pow­ell said the club was a re­lax­ing place to spend a Sun­day af­ter­noon.

“We are a vol­un­teer-run yacht club and, as such, ev­ery­thing we do is geared to­wards fundrais­ing for other clubs and for events that oc­cur dur­ing the year,” she said.

“You can come for a swim, bor­row a kayak for a pad­dle around the bay, then eat tra­di­tional fish and chips wrapped in pa­per.

“We boast fan­tas­tic views over the In­dian Ocean, grassed pic­nic ar­eas, fully li­censed bar and pro­vide weekly Sun­day fish and chips, as well as sun­down­ers, steak nights and other func­tions through­out the year.

Ms Pow­ell said mem­ber­ship was re­quired to eat and drink at the club, in ac­cor­dance with liquor li­cens­ing laws.
