Exmouth port push

Pilbara News - - Election 2017 - Tom Zaunmayr

North West Central MLA Vince Catania is pushing for a deepwater port to be built in Exmouth as the town investigates how to boost marine facilities for cruise ships and the oil and gas industry.

Royalties for Regions has committed $300,000 to the project to help determine the best option.

One option is a floating deck similar to the one in Dampier, but Mr Catania said he believed a permanent deepwater port would be the best option.

“If we are able to put the $30 to $40 million needed to build a floating pontoon into a permanent port I think we can couple up with industry to get a better outcome for the future,” he said. Mr Catania said industry in Exmouth had indicated it would be willing to contribute to making the port a reality.
