Medical gear is a concern
In reference to the article (Medical imaging in focus, 08/02), how much-needed specialist equipment will be funded for the new Karratha Health Campus — our local resident, Dr (Martin) Kumar is a senior medical practitioner who knows what he is talking about.
If the Karratha Health Campus budget of $150 million has blown out to $270 million, will the State Government now not have funding to purchase new specialist equipment?
Will Royalties for Regions fund the specialist medical equipment for the new health campus? Or will the State Government approach Rio Tinto and Woodside as it has in the past?
Rio Tinto and Woodside have made very large financial contributions to hospitals and other health programs across the whole of the Pilbara.
Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton have run a Statewide promotion on what the increase of mining tax means to the companies, communities and for WA’s GST allocation.
What will be their response to any request for funding to buy specialist medical equipment after campaigning for no increase in the mining tax? I’m certain the view will not be favourable.
It appears that there is no firm funding allocated for the specialist medical equipment. So where will funding for specialist medical equipment for the new Karratha Health Campus come from?
This matter is very concerning, and the whole community should be worried.
