Only right and fair miners pay levy

Pilbara News - - Opinion - Ken Saligari, Exmouth

There’s an ad on TV in which the miners ask what the point is of paying the $5-per-tonne levy.

Regardless of where the money would go, it’s only right and it’s only fair that they pay it.

It is moral integrity, words that aren’t in the tax-dodging miners’ vocabulary. Isn’t Australia a nation? It might be in the national interest for them to pay.

What they are really saying is “bugger Australia, our profits are all that matters. Be happy with the crumbs from the rich man’s table.”

I think you would find that if they were forced to pay, WA would do a deal whereby most of the money would stay in WA, like a Federal grant.
