International flight scheme ’progressing’
The City is now in detailed negotiations with the preferred tenderer for Karratha- Singapore flights, Silk Air.
Before the service can happen, we need to have issues such as ticket pricing, seat allocation plans, scheduling, marketing, and sales responsibilities fully determined.
At this stage we are exploring a weekly flight to and from Singapore. The day the flight arrives/leaves is being considered. We expect there will be business and economy classes on the route, and a range of flight prices will be available.
We expect ticket sales will be available through a variety of mechanisms, including Silk Air itself, local travel agents, and online purchasing.
The City will have to complete some minor works at the airport to accommodate the requirements of Australian Quarantine and Border Force agencies.
Councillors have received a great deal of enthusiasm for this flight from residents, but we have also found interest overseas.
Singapore was chosen as our preferred international flight destination because of its incredible connectivity with China, South-East Asia, Indonesia, India and Europe. This means through-flights will be available from here in Karratha to London or anywhere in the world.
Negotiations are progressing well and we expect flights will begin in the second half of this year. We will keep you posted on developments about this exciting proposal as they occur.
