Pool competition heats up during finals approach
With just three fixtures left in the season, teams are giving their all on the run home to the finals.
The first of the women’s games was a close match between the Barracudas and Sharks. Despite being a few players down the Barracudas rallied against a well-oiled Sharks side. Barracudas gained numbers late in the game and with a few quick goals defeated Sharks 7-5.
A full-strength Krakens team put on a clinic against the Pirates in the second women’s fixture. Laura Hill and Caitlin Read dominated the scoring for Krakens and despite gusty efforts from Pirates’ Portia Angove and Nikki Roach, won 11-2.
The Pirates men showed no mercy against a battle-torn Krakens. Justin Angove, Ben Biddiscombe and Hayden Linn had a field day with 13 of the Pirates’ 16 goals. Krakens lost 16-1. It was a tighter game between the Pirates and Barracudas men. Rhys Knight loosened the shoulder up with a few in the back of the net but it wasn’t enough to withhold the Pirates, who were too strong through the scoring of Justin Angove and Hayden Linn.
Pirates' goalie Nikki Roach was an asset in this week’s round of water polo.
