Best WA beach named
An Exmouth bay has been named the best beach in WA and fifth best nationwide in a list of the top 25 coastal spots in Australia.
Turquoise Bay in Exmouth rated highly on TripAdvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice Awards list released last week, which described it as a beautiful beach with turquoise waters and white sand where people could snorkel among colourful coral and abundant fish species.
Exmouth Visitor Centre manager Kristy BryanSmith said she was not surprised at the beach, which she called “the jewel of the Cape Range National Park”, had gained such high recognition.
“Turquoise Bay offers the unique combination of white, sandy beaches with fantastic coral snorkelling only metres from the shoreline,” she said.
“Combine this with the calm, crystal clear waters of the Ningaloo Reef lagoon and it’s easy to see why Turquoise Bay is such a popular spot for visitors.”
Ms Bryan-Smith said the beach was also kept pristine under its special protection status as part of the Ningaloo Marine Park’s Mandu Sanctuary Zone.
One TripAdvisor reviewer said the beach was “totally unspoilt, it lived up to its name”, while another called it “a bit of paradise”.
Turquoise Bay beat out stiff competition from the seven other WA beaches, all from regional areas, that made the list, including Cable Beach in Broome (seventh), Greens Pool in Denmark (11th), Cape Le Grand National Park near Esperance (13th), Little Beach near Albany (15th), Coral Bay (19th) and Meelup Beach near Dunsborough (22nd).
