New project a gas for town
A new gas exploration project off the Pilbara coast is generating excitement for Port Hedland.
Port Hedland’s Mayor Camilo Blanco and chief executive officer David Pentz recently met Quadrant Energy’s director of government and public affairs David Parker, and drilling manager Jason Young to discuss the project in the Bedout Basin about 60km from Port Hedland.
“It’s great to see the resources industry continuing to grow in our region, especially with these new discoveries in oil and gas,” Mr Blanco said.
“The town is looking forward to receiving further updates on the exploration program.”
Exploration activities are being run by Quadrant Energy under a joint venture with Carnarvon Petroleum.
Quadrant Energy supplies more than 40 per cent of WA’s domestic gas from producing facilities across the Pilbara at Varanus Island, Devil Creek and Macedon and is an active explorer in offshore areas in northern WA.
Quadrant Energy was the most active offshore exploration company in Australia in 2016 with a successful seven-well exploration drilling program off the North West coast.
