Taverners end Lions’ late surge, secure finals berth
Finals contenders were decided in round 10 of the 40-over cricket, with Karratha Kats, Dampier Taverners, Wickham and Peg’s Creek Crabs all making it through while the Baynton Lions were unlucky to fall out of the race despite their strong late-season form.
Dampier Taverners sent the Lions packing with a comfortable win by more than 60 runs.
High scores from Dampier’s captain Adrian D’Cunha (38), Bradley Goes (67), Paul Rowe (32) and Jake Leahy (30no) featured in an impressive total of 5-209. Baynton chased hard but were bowled out for 142.
Karratha Kats defeated Peg’s Creek Crabs at the Leisureplex Oval.
Meanwhile Wickham were given a clear path to the finals, winning their round 10 match on a forfeit from Rec Club.
There is a two-week break before the 40-over semifinal games are played on Saturday, March 11.
Karratha Kats will face Peg’s Creek Crabs in a first-versus-fourth play-off at Millars Well Oval, while Dampier will play Wickham at Windy Ridge Oval.
