Stu­dents use phones in class

Se­nior high school stu­dents spend up to two hours a day look­ing at their phones in class.

Stu­dents said they used phones for so­cial me­dia and re­search, with 70 per cent say­ing they learnt more or an equal amount from the in­ter­net com­pared with lessons. A sur­vey of more than 2000 Year 11 and 12 stu­dents, by post-school­ing web­site Year 13, found about 90 per cent spent at least 30 min­utes on their phone each day in class.

Of those, one in 12 used it for two hours or more a day, one in 10 spent up to 90 min­utes, half spent up to 30 min­utes.
