Slayers edge out Mongrels

Pilbara News - - Sport - Rob Skinner

In a really tight start to the Karratha Districts Eightball Association winter season, last year’s premiers Mongrels find themselves on the bottom of the ladder after Slayers easily accounted for them with a 9-6 win.

Slayers were far too good for Mongrels, winning each round 3-2.

The other three matches all recorded 8-7 results, with Warriors defeating newcomers Stickmen, and the Wreckers winning their home derby against Recaholics at the Rec Club.

The Punishers came out on top over Animals in another home derby at the golf club.

The closeness of the matches was not an unexpected result, as most teams have added some depth to their line-ups.

Generally, a new team would be a near-certainty to finish bottom four, but Stickmen have unearthed some rare hidden talent.

This week, they were still without a number of their new recruits on the first night and managed to push the talented Warriors team all the way.

This is a team to watch as they could very well make the finals in their first winter series.
