Teams play hard ahead of finals
Last Thursday, the final round of Karratha Water Polo Association pool matches were played before the 2017 finals series.
In the first women’s game of the night, the Burrup Barracudas pipped the Pilbara Pirates by a goal, 8-7, with Julie Ann Elkins, Kate Kalajzich and Portia Angove continuing their good form from the country championships.
In the second women’s game, the Searipple Sharks won their third game of the season against a depleted King Bay Krackens side, with a final score of 7-6.
Ashleigh Homes and Jacinta Felix starred for the Sharks, and Nikki Hemmett continued her great form for the Krakens.
In the first men’s game, the Barracudas won a nailbiter against the Krakens, 9-8.
Nigel Kroonstuiver and Rhys Knight dominated as usual for the Barracudas, and Curtis Doughty played well for the Krakens.
In the night’s final game, a firedup Krakens side beat the Pirates 9-8, with junior Charlie Regan and David Rigby playing well for the Krakens. The KWPA starts preliminary finals this week, with the grand final on March 23.
