Fish education

Pilbara News - - News -

Educators from the West Kimberley and the Pilbara were invited to presentations by the Department of Fisheries to help them integrate sustainable fishing messages into their classroom.

The presentations, run at the start of March in Broome, Karratha and South Hedland, focused on the department’s sustainable management of aquatic resources and explained the incursions offered to schools throughout the north.

The department’s northern community education officer Jessamy Ham said the sessions attracted good turnouts.

“As fishing is such a big part of our lives in the north, it is important that the message of sustainable fishing is taught from a young age and all through the school years,” she said.
