A serious glassing at the Dampier Mermaid Hotel in 2014 has led to time behind bars for a local woman.

Kristie Jean Neil, 36, of Dampier was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment by the Karratha Magistrate’s Court late last month after she was found guilty of unlawfully wounding another woman.

The incident stemmed from a verbal argument between Neil and the victim that broke out around closing time at the Mermaid on Saturday, November 15, and escalated into pushing while Neil was still holding a glass.

She then struck the victim on the right-hand side of her face with the glass, causing a large cut near the woman’s jaw.

The victim required surgery in Perth for her injuries.
