Fundraiser sparks interest in condition
A Tom Price resident living with Lynch syndrome says the success of her recent fundraiser has motivated her to continue spreading the word about the little-known condition.
It is believed Lauren McDonald held the first official fundraiser in WA for the condition, an inherited genetic mutation which makes people susceptible to developing cancers at a young age, with a head shave in town on March 22.
She was diagnosed at age 28 after developing colon cancer and is now working to promote knowledge of Lynch syndrome, which is believed to affect about 90,000 or 1 in 280 Australians.
Mrs McDonald said her fundraiser had sparked interest from a lot of Tom Price residents and even health professionals, who had asked her for more information about the condition.
“A lot of people said they’d never heard of it before,” she said.
