Dynamic radio duo to hit Lake Argyle waves
The Northwest’s Red FM breakfast team will be braving the waves as they take part in the Lake Argyle Swim next month.
The dynamic radio duo of Adam McGuire and Robbie Klitzing will be taking on the iconic 10km swim on May 6. Their three-person team will compete against more than 110 teams and 470 participants taking part this year in the 10km or 20km open water swim, with more than two-thirds travelling from outside the East Kimberley region.
McGuire said they had secured a “secret weapon”, Rottnest Channel swimmer Aaron Ellis-Kerr, who is expected to cover most of the distance.
“We recruited and got a team of three this year — Robbie, myself and our third member is Aaron “Cuddles” Ellis-Kerr,” he said.
“He’s our secret weapon. He’s done the Rottnest Channel Swim in Perth, the Port to Pub recently and he’s going to help us through the swim — he’s our game plan.
“I’m just worried about finishing the race. Robbie and I just want to pull our weight pretty much and complete it — that would be an achievement in itself.”
While Klitzing said the radio hosts were going into the event with boundless enthusiasm, they have minimal swimming experience. “Floaties, generally. Our swimming experience is highly minimal. We might need floating noodles, if they’ll throw us some of those,” he said.
The pair will also be the MCs at the 600-seat gala presentation dinner after the event, accompanied by live music from the Vans.
“Later on in the night we will be MCing, not only taking on the water but the microphone as well. Hopefully, we will be awarding ourselves a few medals but awarding the ‘real competitors’ their trophies as well,” McGuire said.
“We’re going be doing shows leading up to it and stuff, but the best way to get involved is through social media or listen into the show of course.
“We will actually be doing a whole week in Kununurra as well.”
