Women’s football is on the brink of ending in Port Hedland after a massive no-show occurred at the first meeting last week.

West Australian Football Commission Regional Development Manager Vicki Agnew had announced a meeting last week for the women’s sport, however, despite an incredible response on social media, only one person attended.

“If we don’t get the numbers, it won’t happen,” she said.

“While I will be around, the committees must be run by local communities.”

In the past, Port Hedland has struggled to get the numbers for a local league, with women mostly having to travel for carnivals to play games.

This year however, Ms Agnew hopes women will reflect their social media excitement for a local league to go ahead.

Despite the dismal attendance last week, Hedland sports fans will have a second chance to create a committee and have the sport continue in the town.

The meeting will be held at the Youth Involvement Council meeting room from 6pm.
