Nintirri Centre renews childcare support
Tom Price community facility, the Nintirri Centre, and Rio Tinto have signed a new three-year partnership to continue delivering childcare, early-years learning and other community service programs to inland Pilbara residents.
The partnership agreement, signed late last month, renews a former contract between Nintirri Centre and Rio for community service delivery which was signed in 2013.
It will provide Rio support for the centre’s Little Geckos earlyyears program and in-kind use of facilities for services including the community resource centre, family violence service, community health and wellbeing and the Karijini Experience.
Nintirri chief executive James Jarvis said the partnership was key to providing Tom Price residents had access to a range of important community services in their own town.
“Our long-term support from Rio Tinto has ensured that the people of Tom Price have access to important and affordable childcare services,” he said.
“This is very important in the Pilbara where people often don’t have access to an extended family network.”
The partnership has a focus on child care and part of its renewal will include Nintirri establishing a new vacation care program by the middle of this year.
Rio Tinto Tom Price and Marandoo operations general manager Greg Bacon said the mining operations were proud to support the centre in delivering the important community program.
“Our partnership with Nintirri primarily supports the delivery of childcare services in Tom Price and is an essential factor in attracting people to live and work in the region,” he said.
“We would like to acknowledge the great service Nintirri provides and look forward to how they continue to develop sustainable and much needed programs for working families.”
Nintirri and Rio have worked together to deliver local community services since 1983.
