Jimeoin stops in Pil­bara for in­land WA tour

One of the big­gest names in stand-up com­edy is tak­ing to Pil­bara stages this week for five days of per­for­mances guar­an­teed to get au­di­ences laugh­ing.

UK stand-up comic Jimeoin will be per­form­ing in Dampier, Onslow, Parabur­doo, Tom Price and Pan­na­won­ica from tonight un­til May 14 in a se­ries or­gan­ised by the Shire of Ash­bur­ton in part­ner­ship with Rio Tinto and the Chevron Wheat­stone project.

Jimeoin be­gan his ca­reer tour­ing Aus­tralia in the early 1990s, had his own TV show based here called Jimeoin Down Un­der, and re­mains a reg­u­lar at the Mel­bourne In­ter­na­tional Com­edy Fes­ti­val. De­spite hav­ing toured Aus­tralia ex­ten­sively, the comic said this trip would mark his first visit to the Pil­bara re­gion.

“I have driven the whole west coast of Aus­tralia but never made it in­land,” he said.

“I like a sun­burnt coun­try — only be­cause it was freez­ing where I came from.”

When asked to name his main comic in­spi­ra­tion, Jimeoin said it was prob­a­bly sim­i­lar to that of a lot of peo­ple in the Pil­bara.

“Money is a big in­spi­ra­tion,” he said. “We are all in the Pil­bara to make money.”

As to what au­di­ences could ex­pect, the co­me­dian said he only promised pure en­ter­tain­ment.

Jimeoin is per­form­ing in Dampier tonight fol­lowed by shows in Onslow, Parabur­doo, Tom Price and Pan­na­won­ica each night un­til Sun­day.
