Funding in the 2017 Federal Budget is set to be allocated to developing roads, infrastructure and cattle supply in Australia’s North West.

The Government will provide $56.3 million during the next financial year for infrastructure projects deemed essential to the movement of people and freight, in order to support economic development in the region.

Another $6.1 million also announced to be provided during the next financial year for road infrastructure, specifically for projects that will improve the resilience and productivity of the northern cattle supply trains.

While no specific projects have been announced for the funding to be directed towards the Town of Port Hedland, Mayor Camilo Blanco said the town would be lobbying for funds to come to the Pilbara as they looked at developing the beef export industry as well as diversifying Port Hedland.
