Electric car owners can now recharge in Karratha after a local hotel installed the town’s first charging station.

The Ranges Karratha has two Tesla chargers and a generic three-phase charger.

General manager Barry Harrison said hotel staff had been contacted by Tesla Club WA representative and Australian Electric Vehicle Association member David Lloyd, who was trying to establish a trail of chargers around Australia.

The Ranges spent $500 installing the generic charger, while the Tesla ports were installed at the manufacturer’s cost. Mr Lloyd said electric cars were growing in popularity and the mission to establish a trail of chargers around Australia was well on its way to completion.

“Two-and-a-half years ago when I started, there were virtually no electric vehicle chargers in WA,” he said.

“Now they’re spreading out like crumbs to everywhere.

“We already had them at the Pinnacles, Carnarvon, Cable Beach and Geraldton.”
