Some of Karratha’s best BMX talent has returned from Brisbane after a week competing at the national titles.

Karratha BMX Club had a strong representation at the competition, with eight riders — including the coach — making the trip.

Ashlyn Keremelevich, Joshua Swiatek, Sophie Taylor, Jade Keremelevich, Jackson Tatham, Ryley Hinchcliffe, Alan Kurilowski and Karl Mustchin flew over to compete.

Kurilowski competed in the 35-39-year-old 20-inch and cruiser classes, and made the finals of the latter.

“We got a couple of finals for the crew — the coach Karl (Mustchin) picked up a couple of third places and Sophie (Taylor) and myself made finals for cruisers,” he said.

“The rest just missed out at semis or quarters stages.

“The size of the track and the nerves to go through — it was really competitive compared to what we’re used to.”

Kurilowski said it was a good experience competing on a worldclass BMX track.

BMX club coach Mustchin said the club’s riders were standing out on the national stage.

“Karratha does really well and always has,” he said.

“It’s a fantastic club they have built here and the track is up there with the best anywhere in Australia.

“It is amazing how you can be here one week to teach them something and you come back 14 days later, go to teach them again and they are already all over it.

Mustchin said the BMX environment across the Pilbara was going from strength to strength.
