People were chuffed for Karratha and Roebourne disability support carer Julie Carton, who won the excellence in regional support award at the 2017 Disability Support Awards.

So well deserved, you are an exceptional caring person. Congratulations. Maria Ines Long Great to get acknowledged. Well done Julie. Rosemary Melvey You have the WOW factor Sunshine Jules. Donna Stains

There was more bad news in the Budget for smokers, with roll-your-own tobacco and cigars to be hit by higher taxes.

That's all good and fine, but when will e-cigs be available to purchase in Australia? Let me guess? When the Government can find a way to tax them as well. The rest of the world can go to the corner shop and buy e-cigs, but not Aussies. Geisha L Siemons Woohoo in the process of quitting! Even more reason now. Tammy Doy As per normal the Libs hit the poor old smoker, especially the working class and poor who can only afford rollies. Keven Needham It kills, give it up. Nigel Morgan

A plan to subject 5000 Newstart and Youth Allowance recipients to random drug tests has divided opinion.

Way to push more people on to ice. Marijuana stays in your system for months but ice and ecstasy is out within days. Why can't anyone see the connection between FIFO work and drug testing and the increased use of ice? Erika J Maylam The money spent will outweigh what’s saved. It would be better used on clinics that provide rehabilitation to addicts. Mental health plans don’t cut it for addicts, we need centres, councillors, detox facilities that don’t take beds from mental health patients at the hospitals. Natasha Anna Marrell Not against the drug testing, but what happens when two failed tests result in medical care? Referred to what practitioners? My guess would be that the cost of the medical treatment may outweigh any dole payments. Food for thought. Demelza Stimpson Good I get drug tested for my job and so they should too. Bureau of Meteorology data revealed the Pilbara is the sunniest region in Australia, taking the shine from Queensland’s “Sunshine State”.

I think Queensland trumps us with more theme parks though. I could be wrong. Luke Malone Dampier salt confirmed this 40 years ago. Jessica Hatziathanasiou
