Evening skies outside Karratha will be filled with roaring engines as Nickol Bay Speedway drivers rev up to take on the best the North West has to offer at the club’s first major competition for the year.

The Wingless Sprints event on May 27 is expected to attract a large number of drivers from across the top of the State, as well as some big guns from the big smoke. Also competing will be one of the strongest line-ups of local drivers seen at the speedway.

Club president Brett Armstrong said the locals had a good chance of causing an upset against some of the big names in racing.

“The last time these guys came up, our drivers took it right up to them which was good to see,” he said.

“There’s just something about seeing an open-wheel car going flat chat around the track that the crowd loves to see. With the drivers coming up from Perth and of course the Carnarvon boys coming up, it should be a great night and good competition for our local drivers.”

The club had a strong turnout of drivers and spectators at its first meet at the start of May, with four sprintcars and six wingless drivers taking to the track, with more still to come. Juniors, productions and stockcar numbers are also looking healthy for 2017.
