Kookaburras fly in for junior clinics
Karratha junior hockey players had the chance to train with members of the Australian team when two Kookaburras visited town to run a series of children’s skills clinics.
Joel Carroll and Kiran Arunasalam hosted hockey clinics at schools throughout the City of Karratha earlier this month for Hockey Australia’s Indigenous Program, sponsored by Fortescue Metals Group.
In what will be the first of four visits over the season, the squad members drilled local students in basic skills as well as some tricks.
One of their stops on the tour was with the Nickol Bay Hockey Association’s first Junior Hookin2Hockey program for the season at Tambrey Primary School, which drew a 40-strong crowd.
NBHA president Annabelle Little said school participation at the Tambrey junior session was fantastic and the club was working towards running hockey clinics in all Karratha schools from Term 3.
