Strong third quarter powers Wolves to win over Sharks
The Wickham Wolves have continued their winning ways with a 44-point win over the Dampier Sharks at Windy Ridge.
The first quarter was a tight affair as both sides looked to make their mark early in the game.
For Wickham a win would keep them in touch with the Kats while the Sharks needed the points to keep them in the top three.
They went into the first break separated by two points, and by half-time the Wolves led by just five. The third quarter proved a bruising affair for the Sharks, however, as the visitors stepped up to the plate to take the game away from Dampier.
Stephen Grigg was a menace up front as the Wolves worked towards a six-goal quarter to be ahead 4.4 (28) to 10.12 (72) at the final change. It was a closer final term but the damage had been done, with the Wolves winning 7.5 (47) to 13.13 (91). Grigg booted five goals for the game to move himself into second on the top goal-scorers list behind stablemate Claude Taylor. The home side did claim a morale-boosting win in the reserves to help keep them in touch with the top four. The Sharks booted 7.8 (50) to 6.7 (43) to move level on points with the Wolves and South Hedland Swans.
