Busy time at airport

Pilbara News - - Opinion - Peter Long Peter Long is the City of Karratha Mayor

People have no doubt noticed the building works at the airport recently.

This has required the temporary closure of some of the short-term parking area, which means a longer walk to the terminal.

There is a variety of work taking place at the carparks, including putting in a new passenger drop-off or “kiss-and-ride” lane.

This new lane needs to be a certain distance from the building for security reasons.

Between this lane and the terminal planter boxes, sunshades and new high-quality paving will be put in to provide seating, shelter and to make the area better for airport users.

This will also make the area more attractive.

In addition we are improving the carpark entry and exit gates to reduce those tight turns and make the carpark safer to leave.

There has been considerable disruption to carpark users at the airport as these works progress but the City has decided to extend free parking from 30 minutes to a full hour.

I am sure the community will be happy to know that at the May meeting, councillors voted to make this one-hour free parking permanent.

There’s time now to grab a coffee before you see those visitors off.
