After a long weekend playing and celebrating the Dampier Community Association 50th anniversary, during which Karratha easily took the shield, softball players returned to their local clubs and battled it out at Dampier last Saturday afternoon.

Wickham claimed a convincing win over the Orbits on the back of a good pitching display, beating the Orbits’ bats all match.

Both teams fielded well but Wickham’s batting got them over the line with a final score of 12-2.

Wickham’s Crystal Ladyman and Orbits’ Melinda Clarke both took catches for the highlight reel.

Strong batting and fielding allowed Sinners 1 to shut out the Falcons early in the game, but the home side were not going down without a fight.

In true Dampier style, the home team came back swinging late in the game to score five runs in one innings, but it was not enough to secure a win, with Sinners 1 defeating the Falcons team 11-7.

In the final match, Geckos won their first game of the season over Sinners 2, 15-11.

Deb Lavery-Stevens showed great control of second base for Geckos.
