Pilbara News - - Sport - Alicia Perera

The first North West Masters AFL Carnival will be held this Saturday at the Karratha Leisureplex.

Hosted by the Karratha Mudcrabs, the North West 9s event will see players from Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome and Newman face off in the inaugural day-long carnival. Teams of over-35s will play a nine-a-side competition in two 10-minute halves on a soccer-sized field with normal contact rules, all in the usual friendly spirit of Masters football.

Games are scheduled to start at 3pm, with the grand final listed for 7.30pm.

Carnival director Justin Fromm said the committee was expecting a lot of fun on and off the field, with commentary going from the sidelines “for a laugh”, catering and a bouncy castle for children.

He said plans were already in place to make the carnival bigger and better in future years.
