Sinners 1 and Geckos draw
A stand-out game from Geckos pitcher Chloe Bowden was not enough to force a result against Sinners 1, who came home strong to draw the game.
Bowden struck a number of batters out to help the Geckos develop a strong lead.
With Ashley Tiller out injured, Janet Nicholson was left to pitch for Sinners 1.
Nicole Derr took advantage of Nicholson’s slower pitch to show off her hard-hitting game with two home runs during the game.
Determined not to let Geckos beat them, Nicholson caught a spectacular line drive, Leanne Khan took a tricky catch at third base and Rebecca Macneall sent a ball into the outfield that managed to bring a few runners home for Sinners 1.
Wickham had a better time against Dampier this week, winning 12-2. Wickham Second bat Tracey Blanket managed the biggest home run of the season, hitting the fence beyond left field, allowing for an easy home run and impressive start for Wickham.
Dampier’s Shaw Hawkes saw a lot of action at short stop as Wickham’s strong batting made it a onesided game. A second home run for Wickham from Amber Jaffray bought herself and two teammates home in the third dig.
Playing the developing Sinners 2 team, Storm took the opportunity to allow younger players, Abbygail Bushby, Katelyn Arnold and Courtney Bushby a chance to show their pitching skills.
Sarah Boagey showed off her batting skills with a home run out past centre field, allowing Storm to add to their total.
The Sinners 2 ladies pulled off an early double play, with Zhane Keetels tagging out a player at third base before moving back to play catcher later in the game.
Neisha Keetels pitched well for Sinners 2, Sarah Robinson took two great catches at left field and Peta Gilla almost made it home with her great centre field hit.
The final score was 16-6 in favour of the Storm.
