Spares an essential out bush

Safe or sorry

When travelling out beyond the black stump it pays to be well-prepared. Water, food, fuel, spare parts, first aid and emergency equipment are all absolute essentials.

On our dirt roads it is strongly recommended to carry two good quality spare tyres as well, as the gravel and off-road tracks can be unforgiving.

Well one driver we spotted at the shops last week definitely wanted to have all his bases covered by the looks of it. Hitched to the side of his trailer were six tyres, three with rims.

Perhaps these travellers have been burnt before.

Palmer Poetry

We need to talk about Clive Palmer. The eccentric Queensland businessman at the centre of the palaver at Sino Iron south of Karratha has had a pretty tumultuous few years, and one could forgive him for finding a muse to keep his mind occupied.

That muse, it seems, is poetry. For the past few months Palmer has taken to Twitter to jot down the elegant thoughts which come to mind.

One offering last week really caught our attention: Old man Old man Old man Old man Old man Nappies. You can follow Palmer on Twitter for more beautiful poems such as the one above.

Just a few spares.
