Boy from (north­ern) Oz back for big-screen thriller de­but

Work­ing along­side Harry Pot­ter and Wolf Creek di­rec­tor Greg McLean is all in a day’s work for for­mer Kar­ratha res­i­dent and award-win­ning ac­tor Joel Jack­son these days.

Af­ter spend­ing most of the last year film­ing, Jack­son (TV’s The Boy from Oz) is back on Aussie screens this year in two pro­duc­tions, in­clud­ing a movie open­ing the Mel­bourne In­ter­na­tional Film Fes­ti­val to­mor­row night.

Jun­gle is a sur­vival tale star­ring Harry Pot­ter lead Daniel Rad­cliffe and di­rected by Greg McLean.

Jack­son plays a Swiss teacher and friend of Rad­cliffe’s main char­ac­ter , who ends up in a fight for sur­vival in the Ama­zon rain­for­est.

The film will make its world pre­miere in the cov­eted open­ing night spot for the Mel­bourne film fes­ti­val af­ter re­ceiv­ing crit­i­cal ac­claim. Jack­son will also star in up­com­ing SBS mini-se­ries Safe Har­bour, a thriller about a group of friends whose sail­ing hol­i­day to In­done­sia takes a dif­fer­ent turn when they cross paths with a boat of asy­lum seek­ers.

The four-part se­ries is ex­pected to hit screens later this year.
