Over­com­ing ad­ver­sity in fo­cus

Speaker Nina Hob­son’s di­verse back­ground as a po­lice of­fi­cer, in­ves­tiga­tive TV re­porter and twotimes com­pany founder made for a fas­ci­nat­ing presentation on the im­por­tance of over­com­ing ad­ver­sity in busi­ness at the Pil­bara Busi­ness Boot­camp last Thurs­day.

Mrs Hob­son shared her per­sonal story of ex­tra­or­di­nary highs and lows and start­ing over sev­eral times to con­vey a pow­er­ful mes­sage about the im­por­tance of tenac­ity and valu­ing the sup­port of fam­ily, friends and busi­ness clients.

Her “un­usual re­sume” in­cludes work­ing as a body­guard for Mar­garet Thatcher, be­ing a nom­i­nee for UK Woman of the Year as a me­dia star, start­ing a busi­ness from scratch af­ter mov­ing to Aus­tralia, be­ing pushed out of her com­pany and bouncing back to start up an­other only months ago.

She said each dif­fi­cult ex­pe­ri­ence helped her grow.

“That ex­pe­ri­ence (of los­ing my busi­ness), I wouldn’t wish on any­body, but god, I learnt a lot,” she said.

“I have learnt so much about re­la­tion­ships and about trust and about be­ing nice to ev­ery­body, be­cause you never know when you’re go­ing to meet them on the way back down.”
