Rio seeks feedback
Rio Tinto is asking Pilbara residents for feedback on how the company operates in their communities in a new survey to better gauge local attitudes.
The Local Voices project will involve the CSIRO co-ordinating two sets of surveys on behalf of Rio — a preliminary anchor survey and a series of monthly polls — over a three-year period, to analyse community attitudes to the company’s iron ore operations in the Pilbara and use those to inform future decision-making.
Communities included are Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Pannawonica, Karratha, Wickham, Roebourne and surrounding districts.
CSIRO senior research scientist Kieran Moffat said the data would be formally interpreted and shared back with Rio and Pilbara communities.
