Smooth fin­ish for run­ners

Hed­land lo­cal Nathan Groch has put in an­other solid City to Surf per­for­mance, com­ing in sec­ond in the 2017 Kar­ratha race.

Groch fin­ished the 12km run in a time of 43min 19sec, just three min­utes shy of Alex Dreyer of Perth.

Vanessa Car­son was the first fe­male run­ner across the fin­ish line for the 12km race in a time of 49:42, 30 sec­onds ahead of Kar­ratha’s Ka­t­rina Le Plas­trier.

Pil­bara Dis­trict Po­lice Su­per­in­ten­dent Paul Coombes and City of Kar­ratha coun­cil­lor Daniel Scott were among the no­table lo­cal fig­ures to fin­ish at the top of the pack.

Clock­ing off in a touch over 15 min­utes, Matt Korten won the 4km run ahead of Pa­trick Gug­gis­berg and Xavier Teppo, who both fin­ished in un­der 16 min­utes.

Lisa Bird was the first fe­male over the line in the 4km leg, fin­ish­ing in 18:04.

Last year’s 4km win­ner Jett Bailey put in an­other strong race, fin­ish­ing 7th in a time of 17:59, more than one minute faster than his time last year.

Xavier Wick­ens, who fin­ished sec­ond be­hind Jett in 2016, squared the ledger with his mate this year, fin­ish­ing fourth in a time of 16:29.

Among the run­ners were Lenni’s Crew, a group of lo­cal chil­dren run­ning in hon­our of Lenni Ge­orge, who died in a boat­ing ac­ci­dent at Cleaverville in Novem­ber, 2014.

He­len Corker fin­ished the 12km walk first in a time of 1hr 29min 38sec.

Corey Chad­wick crossed first in the 4km walk, fin­ish­ing in just over 20 min­utes.
