The Storm have won the West Pilbara Softball Organisation final with an 8-4 victory over Wickham Cyclones.

Storm went in as favourites to take the flag but the finals started evenly with tight fielding on both sides. Wickham’s Danielle Salathiel took three catches at short stop, with catches also taken by Linda Retchford, Amber Jaffray and Obe Babia.

Chrisene Retchford pitched an accurate and strong game and ran the bases aggressively.

Wickham brought their junior players on to change things up but left this too late in the game to make up the runs needed.

Storm catches were taken by Sarah Boagey, Erin Walker, Piri Dargaville, Terese Bushby and two by Belinda Gordon.

Jo Leo was a strong catcher and Storm’s biggest hitter, with an impressive home run over the outfielder’s head to bring herself and one other home.

Courtney Bushby pitched an aggressive game with impressive strike-outs throughout.

The game was tight until the fifth innings, when Storm brought four home, extending their lead.

The Rosie Jones Medal was awarded to Chrisene Retchford for best on ground.
